Asheville: The Omni Grove Park Inn

Everything is a surcharge

It’s not that I can’t afford it, it’s that I feel tricked. My wife called and asked me to meet her in at the hot tub…. Well that was in the “spa” and that is a $65 per day fee to walk into. That does give me a full day of spa amenities, but since it was 7pm an attendant was not available to issue me the usual robe and locker. So the walk thru cost me $65. And we have not even talked about the “self parking fee” and numerous other fees.

Overall I like the place. Rarely do you find all of the offered amenities and services offered in one place. Reminds me of The Fairmont in Banff. Except with a little better year round weather. It’s unique look and top floor lobby has breath taking views. It’s history and previous guest lists are wonderfully interesting. The adjoining light shopping, museums and fitness is great. The golf course looks very nice, but I have only played “ok, walked” one course in my life.

Cozumel: Cozumel Palace

This is my second time.

I have been blessed to have been able to travel around a bit. The Cozumel Palace is my favorite warm weather resort. The restaurants are diverse enabling you to eat a full menu inside, outside or even in your room. The staff is very accommodating, and the location is convenient being within walking distance to downtown shopping and the Dolphin swimming . I rented a scooter for the week enabling me to drive around the island experiencing more of the local culture. I parked it in front of the resort every night. The outdoor lounging area is wonderful and partially covered. The pool is large, clean and well maintained. Some spa services were included in my package and I found my massage above average in quality.

Banff: Fairmont Banff Springs Restaurant

What a magical place

As I was driving through town up to the huge castle like facility I felt like I was going to visit a king! The food and amenities were 5 star as well as the area restaurants. I am from Oklahoma and have been very blessed to have traveled around and experienced a wide variety of “nice” and this ranks in my overall top 3. Very few American travelers here makes this a secret get away. This place is on the vacation experience level of northern Scotland or Cozumel, and much better than Jamaica or anyplace here in the states.
